Guy Ottewell's Astronomical Calendar is one of the best, clearest, and most useful compendiums of annual celestial events available. The oversize pages reveal full-page sky maps for each month, lucid diagrams of eclipses and occultations, the year-long paths of each planet, notable comets and asteroids and especially striking sky scenes and patterns. Each month has a diary or 40 or more events with callouts to particular highlights or auxiliary discussions. Supplementary sections expand on each planet, the Sun, the Moon, occultations and conjunctions, eclipses, space flight and meteor activity as well as other subjects. This wealth of information will delight the professional astronomer while its clarity of presentation will invite even the hesitant beginner.
